Biography
Jane Gouge was born about 1885, daughter of John Hector Gouge and Elizabeth Golder. From Tanning to Panning says she was a 22-year-old domestic residing at Maryborough when she married August Ashlen Rohde at Maryborough Church of England in 1907. The same source notes her mother Elizabeth Golder came to Avoca from Oxford, England at age nine and that the Golder family ran a wheelwright business in Avoca. Jane and August’s children included Matilda “Tilly”, Carl, Iles “Bob”, John, and one stillborn child. Jane died in June 1968 and is buried with August in Bendigo; the grave marker gives 29 Jun 1968, while the current tree fact says 25 Jun 1968.
