Biography
Born 17 Sep 1866 at Kempton, Tasmania. Married John De Renzy Shekleton in 1888 at Corowa, NSW, and died in 1889, leaving infant William Hope Sheckelton. There is a name-conflict requiring care: a NSW Government Gazette/coroner reference for “Catherine Imilda Gibbs” aged 4 3/4 drowned at Maitland in December 1889 appears to be a different child with the same name, not necessarily William’s mother.

Key facts
- This record is not a direct record for George Samuel Gibbs (born about 1830) and is probably attached in error.
- It may concern a Gibbs collateral family: William Gibbs, printer, son of George Gibbs, married Emily Rudd at St Pancras on 24 December 1848.
Research Notes
2026-05-31: Do not merge the adult Catherine Imilda Gibbs (born 1866, married John De Renzy Shekleton, mother of William Hope Sheckelton) with the separate NSW Government Gazette/coroner reference to a Catherine Imilda Gibbs aged 4 3/4 who drowned at Maitland in Dec 1889. Treat as unresolved same-name conflict until certificates/inquest details are compared.
2026-06-02 correction: the seated older-woman portrait originally imported from catherine-gibbs.png is Anne Hope Derenzy, not Catherine Imilda Gibbs.
